SUMMARY:302 Children's Choir and Mallet Ensemble Concert
DESCRIPTION:Arts@302 is proud to present the very first concert for our music classes on Thursday\, November 17th at 5:45pm. The 302 Children’s Choir and the Mallet Instrument Ensemble will come together for a combined performance showcasing everything that they have learned over the past 10 weeks. The concert will be held inside the Arts@302 gallery and is free to the public. \nThe 302 Children’s Choir is comprised of 32 kids in 3rd-6th grade that have explored fundamental music concepts and vocal technique over the 8 classes. They will prepare two songs for the concert. First is Frank Wildhorn’s\, “I Have a Voice”\, which was composed for the 2015 “Broadway Kids Against Bullying”. It includes a powerful message about self confidence and trust. The second piece is Tom Shelton’s “Animal Imagination”\, a whimsical romp full of fun words\, rhythms\, and motions. The 302 Children’s Choir is directed by Caleb Cline and Caleb Ricketts. \nThe Mallet Instrument ensemble is comprised of 10 kids in 3rd-6th grade that have explored improvisation\, composition\, and play through the Orff-Schulwerk method. Participating kids will be playing xylophones and glockenspiels\, as well as incorporating body percussion\, motions\, and spoken lines.  They have prepared a selection of songs that are tied together by the book\, The Knight Owl. The Mallet Instrument Ensemble is directed by Michelle McCarver.

SUMMARY:Glass Colored Roses - Catered Reception
DESCRIPTION:June 21st – July 30th \nOur first solo exhibition features the work of glass and mixed media mosaic artist\, Katie Wheat Pernu. As a medium so affected by light\, expect these works to truly shine in our new window-lined space! In this exhibit\, you will explore a combination of hand cut and chipped stained glass\, stones\, beads\, old hardware\, and an array of found objects. Viewers will experience both a variety of colorful images from a distance\, as well as a study of tiny textural bits and pieces upon closer observation. \n\nThe old saying – ‘seeing the world through rose colored glasses’ – is obviously the inspiration for my title\, but my seeing is not passive. It is active. My view is changed in the doing itself – the creation\, the execution and the analysis of each piece. Seeing in new ways is my job. \nMany of us engage in activities that truly take us away from our worries. There is such focus in the moment\, that all else disappears. Whatever does that for you\, it is not just an activity. It is your best gift. \nTo me\, the world is a kinder\, gentler place looking through my glass. I invite you to come and look with me. \n\nGlass Colored Roses will be celebrated with a catered reception held on Thursday\, July 7th from 5:30pm to 8pm that is free to the public. The reception will be sponsored by the Blockhouse Grill and Pub and Wild Meadows Café with floral embellishments by The Flower Co.
