The Origami Puzzle Purse, often called a Victorian Puzzle Purse, is a folded paper craft holding a heartfelt letter to a stranger. The purse unfolds like a secret waiting to be discovered, revealing a message meant for someone unknown.
Our March SSA Artist is Kayla Anley, our primary drawing instructor. Kayla will first inspire you with prompts and examples for your letter (More below). After that, all will be encouraged to illustrate their letters to enhance their messages. Drawings can be as simple or as intricate as you’d like–what matters is the intent behind it!
This is a free come-and-go event. Puzzle Purses can take 30-45 minutes or more to complete. Small children will need a grown-up to help create with them. We will have complementary donuts, coffee, and juice for all participants.
Our Second Saturday Art program is offered each month and is made possible through generous community donations. Click below to make a donation today to keep this program free for all.
WHAT ARE THE LETTERS?
There are endless possibilities for your letters! They can be brief, emphatic, poetic, reflective, or mysterious. They can be words of encouragement, a wish for the future, a message of hope, or something completely abstract.
EXCHANGE BASKET
Once finished, participants can fold their puzzle purse and place it in the basket.
- At any time, they can take a different one left by someone else.
- They can open it immediately or save it for later.
- This creates a silent conversation between strangers, a small act of giving and receiving without knowing who is on the other end.
