Level II: This workshop is for students who have taken at least one or more class with clay and understand the fundamentals of the medium.

Sgraffito is a form of ceramic decoration made by scratching through a surface to reveal a lower layer of a contrasting color. In this workshop, you’ll discover how to incorporate this fun technique into your own projects.

This workshop perfectly complements students currently enrolled in clay classes at Arts@302! If you are already enrolled in a clay class, you already have projects you can utilize for this workshop! Just grab any of your unfired, greenware pieces off the work-in-progress shelves and bring it along for the ride into sgraffito techniques.

Those not currently enrolled in clay classes at Arts@302 can purchase prepared greenware piece from the instructor for $10 each.

All other glazes necessary will be provided for the duration of this workshop. All finished pieces will be food, dishwasher, and microwave-safe. Finished pieces must be left at Arts@302 to be fired. The instructor will contact participants when pieces are ready for pick-up within two weeks of class at Arts@302.

If you are bringing outside greenware or glazes not provided by Arts@302, you’ll need to have previous experience with the materials you bring into the studio. The instructor must review all outside glazes before they are allowed to go through the kiln. Any glazes incompatible with an 06 glaze firing will not be permitted in this class. Stoneware is compatible with glazes provided – as long as it is not intended to be food-safe. Any pieces deemed incompatible with kiln-firing by the instructor cannot be used in this class, and a kit will need to be purchased directly from the instructor for $10 to participate.
