Celebration of Native American Art and Culture
August 4th – 30th
Our Celebration of Native American Art and Culture will feature the traditional and contemporary works of Oklahoma Native Americans of all tribes. Featured mediums include drawing, painting, printmaking, mixed media, photography, sculpture, basket weaving, and jewelry.
Our show will be held in conjunction with the upcoming First Annual Broken Arrow Intertribal Veterans Pow Wow that will take place August 5th-7th, 2022 at the Broken Arrow Events Park. This will be a three day Pow Wow to honor our veterans, benefit both Mission 22 and BAIVA and to bring the community together in fellowship.
This show will be celebrated with an opening reception on Thursday, August 4th from 5:30pm to 8pm. This reception and gallery exhibit will be free and open to the public. We are excited to partner with Nātv Restaurant and American Inheritance Confectionary for our free catered reception.
Glass Colored Roses
June 21st – July 29th
Our first solo exhibition features the work of glass and mixed media mosaic artist, Katie Wheat Pernu. As a medium so affected by light, expect these works to truly shine in our new window-lined space! In this exhibit, you will explore a combination of hand cut and chipped stained glass, stones, beads, old hardware, and an array of found objects. Viewers will experience both a variety of colorful images from a distance, as well as a study of tiny textural bits and pieces upon closer observation.
“The old saying – ‘seeing the world through rose colored glasses’ – is obviously the inspiration for my title, but my seeing is not passive. It is active. My view is changed in the doing itself – the creation, the execution and the analysis of each piece. Seeing in new ways is my job.
Many of us engage in activities that truly take us away from our worries. There is such focus in the moment, that all else disappears. Whatever does that for you, it is not just an activity. It is your best gift.
To me, the world is a kinder, gentler place looking through my glass. I invite you to come and look with me.”
Glass Colored Roses was celebrated with a catered reception held on Thursday, July 7th from 5:30pm to 8pm that was free to the public. The reception was sponsored by the Blockhouse Grill and Pub and Wild Meadows Café with floral embellishments by The Flower Co.
